Q: What is the difference between Barley grass and Wheatgrass?

A: There is said to be very little difference between the nutritional contents of Barley grass and Wheatgrass. Many agree though that Barley grass, though slightly bitterer, is a lot more palatable than Wheatgrass. The detoxification reactions to taking Barley grass are also much milder. Thus, both green Barley grass or Wheatgrass are excellent substitutes if you would like to reap the nutritional and healing benefits of one of Nature’s green super-foods. If you are unable to tolerate Wheatgrass juice, then the more palatable green Barley juice is the gentle answer for you. Some say they don’t experience a slight temporary nauseous feeling when drinking the Barley grass juice like they do when they drink the wheat-grass juice. Everyone seems to prefer one cereal grass flavor over the other, it is a matter of personal choice.

Q: Any Side Effects to using Barley grass- or Wheatgrass juice?

A: There are no known side effects attributed to either Barley- or Wheatgrass juice.

Q: Will I have an allergic reaction to the Barley- or Wheatgrass juice?

A: No. The juice is taken from the leaves, it is the gluten content in corn, wheat, and Barley grain which causes allergies. None of the ingredients in these juices contain gluten.

Q: How fast should I drink my Barley- or Wheatgrass juice?

Q: Can I take Barley- or Wheatgrass juice while taking medication?

A: As long as your health practitioner has not forbidden you to eat salads or green vegetables, you can use Barley- or Wheatgrass.

Q: Is there anyone who should not use Barley- or Wheatgrass?

A: Both Barley and Wheatgrass are whole food concentrates, so most people should be able to take it. Those with severe medical problems or complications should consult a health practitioner before introducing something new to their bodies. Those on restricted diet (especially in regard to “green foods”) should also consult a health practitioner.

Q: I started taking Barley and I feel worse. Why ?

A: When you make a change in your diet, your body often goes through a cleansing known as detoxification. This can manifest itself in fatigue, rashes, and headaches. It is your body flushing out toxins.

Q: How do I prepare Barley juice or Wheatgrass-juice in a pleasant way if I find it slightly too bitter?

A: The best is to have your daily intake as is and not to mix it with anything else on an empty stomach but if one cant tolerate the taste it is advisable to mix it with a fruit juice (apple or blackberry). You can also make a delicious nutritious smoothie like the ones in our recipe sections.

Q: What are the benefits of taking the Barley juice or Wheatgrass juice fresh instead of in powder form?

A: The Barley- and Wheatgrass juice powders available at health shops have all the necessary vitamins, minerals & nutrients, however, fresh grass juice contains healthful enzymes not found in dried grass powder, and is likely to be higher in just about every phytonutrient found in cereal grass.

Q: Is it okay to take multi-vitamins with Barley- or Wheatgrass juice?

A: Yes, you can continue taking multi-vitamins while taking Barley- or Wheatgrass juice as Greendoor Barley and Wheatgrass juices are a whole food product which is derived from either fresh Barley grass or fresh Wheatgrass and will not interfere with your multivitamins. A: Infact, frozen might even be better We find that as an added bonus, still ice cold, freshly liquidised frozen wheatgrass juice tastes better than freshly juiced wheatgrass. By juicing the grass  it bursts the nutrients out of wheatgrass cells so that we can absorb them. But inevitably, some intact cells slip through. Freezing the wheatgrass juice unlocks these last cells. Having said that, this is probably only a minor benefit and not worth doing unless you have some other reason to freeze the wheatgrass.

“You should drink your wheatgrass within 15 minutes of defrosting. The sooner the better. The vitamins in the juice will slowly oxidise and loose their health value. This is the reason we snap freeze our wheatgrass immediately after it is juiced.
